What I learned about the Rio 2016 Olympics logo33ee9cb731143f01abcfab97b1692b68

This year Olympics game was by far my favorite now that says a lot with me knowing that I grew up watching the 1996 Olympic team the magnificent 7 (Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes, Kerri Strug, Amy Chow, Amanda Borden, and Jaycie Phelps.) before that I only think I paid attention to the opening ceremony.

But this yeah there was just so much awesomeness that I was glued to the TV as much as I possibly could.

The thing I found most interesting was that I wanted to know was what was it that the Olympian were receiving along with their medals. After debating with the people around me we all realized that it was a trophy of the Rio Logo. For a group of designers and artist we were pretty impressed. So I did a little digging to find out who designed the Rio logo and came across this article by Julia Sagar at creativeblog.com one of my favorites inspiration blogs that I follow. Where she interviews the founder of the company who designed the Rio Olympic logo. (see article here)

After beating out over 139 design studios and ad agencies to win the Rio 2016 Olympics logo job. Brazilian agency Tatil founder Frederico Gelli explained the challenges involved in creating this year logo.“It had to reflect local culture – but at the same time be universally understood,”

“You can see in Rio today a huge challenge, a huge change, in the city – and it was part of this big hug that happened.”

The 3d logo shows people joyously joining hands, while the color scheme reflects Rio’s environment. Yellow for the sun, blue the sea and green the forests.

“It was amazing. People started to see things we didn’t put there consciously,” Gelli admitted.

Take a look at the 4 things that the design resembled:

01. The shapes map the landscape

02. The emblem says ‘Rio’

03. The abstract heart

04. Three new forces
